Frequently Asked Questions
Some helpful topics for beginners and advanced swimmer
What should I expect in my first swim lesson?
You’ll likely start with basic water safety, getting comfortable in the water, and learning to float or blow bubbles. My focus on building confidence, often with games for kids or guided exercises for adults. Lessons are usually 30–45 minutes in a shallow pool.
What do I need to bring to swim lessons?
Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles plus swim cap (optional).
For kids, if not potty trained, two layers of swim diapers.
Is it normal to feel scared or nervous in the water?
Absolutely! Fear of water is common, especially for beginners. I will go at your pace, using gentle techniques like floating or holding the pool edge to build confidence.
If your child is terrified of water, I try to help relieve the tension with playful, age-appropriate words, lots of love and smiles and, for younger children, songs.
How often should I attend lessons?
What if I don’t have any swimming experience?
How can I improve my stroke efficiency?
I focus on your technique drills like catch-and-pull for freestyle, body rotation for backstroke, or dolphin kicks for butterfly. We'll use tools like pull buoys or paddles to isolate movements. Video analysis with me can pinpoint inefficiencies.
How can I improve my breathing technique?
We'll practice bilateral breathing for balance in freestyle. I can help to work on timing—exhale fully underwater and inhale quickly. Drills like “3-stroke breathing” (breathing every third stroke) improve rhythm and lung capacity.
